I lost my kitty of 14 years yesterday, but I still have my 3 dogs... two of which are under a year old. You just can't stay depressed when you have puppies doing silly things all day long. All 3 of them are precious to me and a great help when times are tough.
Animal companions bring so much into our lives. They teach us compassion and make us think of something other than ourselves. They teach us to live each day to it's fullest, and to enjoy a rainy day or a mud puddle.
I've watched my puppies find that one special place in the yard... well the special place of the moment and roll around on that spot in wild ecstacy. There's nothing ever there that I can see, but they have found a moment of paradise in the smallest of things.
They have taught me the joy of the sun on my skin and the wind in my face. The peaceful moment of tracking a bird flying across the yard, and the fun in playing keep away. I have learned to savor that first wonderful stretch in the morning and that last bit of routine before bed. I have found the pleasure in sharing with something that never keeps a tally of right and wrongs or who's done what for whom.
I can't imagine my life without my companions. Here's a pic of the gang (my 3 and my boyfriend's 2).

From right to left in front: Conner 1.5 yrs old, Neesa 8-9 mos old, Zephyr 13 yrs old, Maia 4 mos old, and in the back is Vario 10 mos old. Conner and Vario are not mine, but I see them often enough and they come over often enough that they're like my step children. All of them are rescue animals and the 3 black ones came from high-kill shelters.

They are all so pretty
sorry to hear about your cat. But i am glad you find happiness in your dogs! They are all so beautiful! And i applaud you for getting all rescues!! It is awesome that they all seem to get along well!!
Thank you.
My older dog (the big one, Zephyr) tries desperately to ignore all the others even though they all defer to her. In her old age she has decided she only really wants to be around her human pack.... The puppies jump on her, nip at her legs, and the youngest tries to constantly lick her face, but she tries to pretend they don't exist.
The black retriever (Neesa), and the terrier (Vario) have gotten in a few spats trying to establish pecking order... plus they're both hunting dogs so they have that fighting instinct, but overall they do all get along very well together. You should see when I try to get them all in my Honda Civic. LOL
Sorry to hear about your cat. Losing something is hard.
Thank you for your kind words. This isn't the first pet I've lost, and certainly won't be my last. Losing everyone of them has been hard, but I can't imagine my life without my furry little companions... any of them.
I understand, I too have lost animals and though you know they are not forever getting use to being without them is an adjustment. My current dog is 16 and I know he can't last forever, I just want the days he has left to be happy. I have had to put animals down due to illness and it is a hard choice to make. I wish they could tell us how the feel, it would make our choices easier since I think we all would like to be able to do what is best for our animal.
Your pets are gorgeous and I bet they keep you really busy. When I lost my cat of 15 yrs which was my only pet, I wailed all day long. It was like I lost my best friend in the world. Her name was Ginger and there will never be another one like her.
Oh yes.... I cried ALL day. Cats and dogs are like people. They all have their own special personalities along with their own quirks and flaws that makes them all unique. I still miss Scratchy, and I still miss the 2 kitties before her, but I can't live without at least one cat in the house. I now have a 6 month old grey kitten named Whisper. :)
